| Services to the Armed Forces
The American Red Cross provides an around-the-clock, around-the-world
emergency communications network available to the men and
women of our armed services and their families during personal
emergencies. This service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days
a week at no cost to service personnel and their families.
The Red Cross facilitates emergency messages and requests
for emergency leave for service members in times of need,
such as serious illness and/or death of a family member. The
Red Cross works with the military to provide interest free
loans and grants to service members during crisis situations.
Disaster
Services
Our Disaster Volunteers stand ready to respond to disasters
ranging from single family fires to major disasters including
tornadoes, floods, and hurricanes. They help “neighbors”
on behalf of the Red Cross by providing food, clothing, shelter,
medications, and other such emergency needs as an outright
gift. The Red Cross is also responsible for sending Disaster
Volunteers throughout the United States and all over the world
in times of major disaster events. The Red Cross provides
community education, including numerous disaster prevention
and preparedness programs.
Health
and Safety Services
Volunteer Instructors certify citizens in our community in
health and safety services including Infant, Child, and Adult
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), different levels of First
Aid and Safety, Babysitting Courses, Back Injury Prevention,
Lifeguard and Water Safety Instruction. The Red Cross offers
free swimming lessons in the summer and presents health and
safety information to local organizations free of charge.
HIV/AIDS
Education
The American Red Cross is a national leader in HIV/AIDS education.
We provide free brochures, films, and presentations to the
community composed of unbiased, timely, and accurate information
about HIV and AIDS for all age levels. We work closely with
other community agencies that provide testing and counseling
services throughout our jurisdiction to ensure that education
is reaching all segments of our population.

International
Services
As a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent
Movement, our mission is to: relieve human suffering wherever
it may be found; protect life and health; ensure respect for
the human being, particularly in times of armed conflict and
natural disaster; help prevent disease; promote health and
social welfare; and encourage voluntary service. This is accomplished
through emergency response, primary health care, food security,
tracing and Red Cross Messages, organizational development
and dissemination of International Humanitarian Law. We assist
with reunion services between people in our area and their
relatives around the world, provide International Disaster
Welfare information to individuals that have families located
in the affected areas and promote the International Humanitarian
Law throughout our area.
Nursing
Home Services
Red Cross volunteers visit four area nursing homes providing
residents with encouragement, support, and entertainment via
Bingo, Fireside Parties, Bible Trivia, and other programs.
Each week our volunteers have the opportunity to visit with
residents for the 2-3 hour programs.
Youth Services
Red Cross Youth Volunteers provide assistance at First Aid
stations and coordinate supply drives throughout the
eleven parishes. Youth also participate in AIDS education,
disaster services, nursing home visitations, and health
and safety services.
