| Services to the Armed Forces
The American Red Cross provides an around-the-clock, around-the-world emergency communications network available to the men and women of our armed services and their families during personal emergencies. This service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a week at no cost to service personnel and their families. The Red Cross facilitates emergency messages and requests for emergency leave for service members in times of need, such as serious illness and/or death of a family member. The Red Cross works with the military to provide interest free loans and grants to service members during crisis situations.
Services Provided During the Past Fiscal Year:
- 352 individual cases served
- $8,500 in loans facilitated

Disaster
Services
Our Disaster Volunteers stand ready to respond to disasters ranging from single family fires to major disasters including tornadoes, floods, and hurricanes. They help “neighbors” on behalf of the Red Cross by providing food, clothing, shelter, medications, and other such emergency needs as an outright gift. The Red Cross is also responsible for sending Disaster Volunteers throughout the United States and all over the world in times of major disaster events. The Red Cross provides community education, including numerous disaster prevention and preparedness programs.
Services Provided During the Past Fiscal Year:
- $76,000 distributed to 700 individual fire clients
- Disaster Action Team ready and trained to respond to disasters and open shelters
- Disaster preparedness presentations made throughout area

Health
and Safety Services
Volunteer Instructors certify citizens in our community in health and safety services including Infant, Child, and Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), different levels of First Aid and Safety, Babysitting Courses, Back Injury Prevention, Lifeguard and Water Safety Instruction. The Red Cross also offers free swimming lessons in the summer.
Services Provided During the Past Fiscal Year:
- CPR/First Aid taught to 3,400 individuals
- Life guarding and swimming classes taught to 150 individuals
- Babysitting training taught to 50 youth
- Health fairs, demonstrations and presentations given throughout NELA

International
Services
As a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, our mission is to: relieve human suffering wherever it may be found; protect life and health; ensure respect for the human being, particularly in times of armed conflict and natural disaster; help prevent disease; promote health and social welfare; and encourage voluntary service. This is accomplished through emergency response, primary health care, food security, tracing and Red Cross Messages, organizational development and dissemination of International Humanitarian Law. We assist with reunion services between people in our area and their relatives around the world, provide International Disaster Welfare information to individuals that have families located in the affected areas and promote the International Humanitarian Law throughout our area.

Nursing
Home Services
Red Cross volunteers visit area nursing homes providing residents with encouragement, support, and entertainment with Bingo, Fireside Parties, Bible Trivia, and other programs. - Volunteers visit nursing home residents monthly
Youth Services
Red Cross Youth Volunteers provided a multitude of services encompassing all of our programs. Youth volunteers provide assistance by coordinating supply drives for fire clients throughout our eleven parishes. They also have the opportunity to provide Disaster Services, nursing home visitations, and Health and Safety Services.
Services Provided During the Past Fiscal Year:
- Numerous schools in NELA raised funds and secured in-kind donations for disaster clients
- Over 20 youth assisted with chapter projects
- 125 youth heard age-appropriate disaster preparedness presentations
